Care of the territory

Environmental protection as a tradition

The entire Alpine region is one of the best-maintained mountain areas in the world. This is also thanks to all the people who inhabit this area. In fact, the people's love for their land and, above all, mountain agriculture, which is centuries (if not millennia) old, are the primary reasons for this achievement. South Tyrol and its Ladin valleys are among the best examples of this. Furthermore, the Ladin Viles of Marebbe and San Martin still teach lessons in rural culture, passion for the environment, self-sufficiency, and sustainability. Farming the land and mountain slopes (sometimes steep) is not an easy task and can be very tiring. It was not an easy life for our farmers, far from the comforts of the city. However, it is their past, as well as present hard work that guarantees the care and beauty that characterise our territory nowadays. The skilful land management, the production turnaround, and the many manufacturing skills, allow to offer high-quality products that are increasingly attracting admirers within markets that would otherwise be standardised and stereotyped. Agriculture, livestock, the processing of genuine products and even handicrafts find a great showcase at the farmers' markets. The latter are organised on a weekly basis in all the major towns of the valleys, representing simplicity, hospitality, taste, and sustainability of authentic mountain life.
