The sled is the best winter entertainment to learn as a child. They will remember forever. For some time now, it has also been revived as an alternative pastime to skiing or to walking and excursions, and there are more than a few ski resorts that have tracks for a descent into the valley by sled. It has also become possible, as an alternative to climbing on foot, to go back up using the cable cars, and then sled back down. A particularly welcome solution for families with children, who can have fun together with their young ones, but that is also enjoyed by groups of friends looking for a new activity.
Thanks to the sporting performances of the Clara brothers, born in Longiarù, and other top lugers/and Ladin and South Tyrol natives, a few years ago the village of San Martino in Badia equipped itself with a competitive luge track for practice on a natural track known as "Do Juvel"! Lugeing on natural tracks is practiced under the aegis of the International Luge Federation. The Longiarù track is also approved to host the World Cup of this winter sport.
The floodlit track, to the south-west of the village, on the slopes of the hill that gave it its name, is considered a difficult track and is only recommended for experienced lugers. On the "Do Juvel" luge track in San Martino / Longiarù, it is not uncommon for luge training to take place at night.
Enjoy the free spectacle of athletes in the singles or doubles category whizzing down the racing track.
Also, San Martino and the Puez Odle nature parksoffer many alternatives for slower sledding tracks that are just for fun and for families with children.
